“Two men enter. One man leave.” That’s the principle here behind The Arena. Because we at Chaser know that after women and wine, there’s nothing. So we whittle our time away with bullshit conjecture about ridiculous hypotheticals. We take two things, pit them against each other in The Arena, poll our staff and see who comes out on top. Then you tell us how fucking stupid we are. Begin. The similarities between X-Men and Heroes are too obvious: Two groups of genetic mutants that are supposedly the next step in human evolution. This is a tough one with all the similarities. Peter is like Rogue, Claire is like Wolverine, DL is like Kitty Pryde, etc. I think there is one key difference. Sylar is much more sinister than Magneto or any other villain. Sylar also has not only several different powers, but he understands how the whole "Mutant X" DNA works. He thus has power over all other heroes/mutants with his knowledge and potential for the future. It is impossible not to draw comparisons and end up asking who would end up victorious in a battle to end all battles.
I see a few major characters it would dwindle down to. However, the first to go would be Claire. We have Claire's healing powers vs. Wolverine's healing powers, true. Think about this, though: 90 pound cheerleader vs. 250 pound badass with metal claws grafted to his skeleton. Wolverine wins that hands down. Let’s look at the mental abilities. When you compare the psychic powers of Matt the cop vs. the psychic powers of Xavier, I don’t even need to answer that one. Peter's mimicking power is inherently non-lethal. So Rogue just touches Peter and he is down. Though ponder this - would Peter get Rogue's power, and thus they both would be touching each other and they both die, or does nothing happen? Does the universe implode? The list could go on, but the good guys of X-Men easily defeat the good guys of Heroes. Only one good guy I see that stands out is Hiro. His powers in the show have yet to be fully realized, if he can in fact change the past (which doesn’t seem likely at this point) then his power could trump all. Also, Future Hiro seems like a time traveling sword wielding badass who kills dinosaurs for fun. Yet, that might be a premature judgment. We do not know what Hiro will develop into, so he is undecided. As of now, he's a wimp and would be torn apart rather easily. However, the Heroes seem to have problems with cohesion and teamwork. Many are reluctant to embrace their roles and their destinies with one another. Although this has also been true of many mutants in X-Men, the Heroes have across many timelines allowed the world to explode because of their inability to get their shit together. With bad guys on the other hand, the tables would turn. Sylar would tear Magneto apart, as well as probably most all other X-men. We do not know what all his powers are so far, but we do know he is extremely powerful. The Haitian could render Xavier's power useless. Possibly others’ powers, too, but again it’s questionable. He could be like the kid in X-Men: The Last Stand, all grown up...and, well, Haitian. I think the final battle of the remaining would be Sylar vs. Phoenix. Sylar is powerful, but he doesn’t nearly have the Level 5 tear-skin-off-motherfuckers voodoo of Phoenix. So after people have been nuked, brains eaten, psychic mind battles waged, and time traveled, to no surprise, Phoenix is the last genetic freak standing. Dags, I was gonna lean towards the Heroes, but that's a fatal flaw. Plus, when you're make believing you are one of the characters, all the cool kids want to be Wolverine or Cyclops. Who the fuck wants to be Hiro? Or Peter? Yeah I want to be a fat Asian stereotype. Or a whiny hippie male nurse. Winner: X-Men |
