| | ...And then there's Jim Brown. He was not the most likeable person, but you can't say that he was full of himself. He often talked about how he was not the greatest or most talented player, and maintains it to this day. Funny, because if you look at what he accomplished, it's more than any other back has done.
He led the league in rushing in all but one season, and set a touchdown record of 106, that was only broken decades later, and that was in a season when the league was playing more games per season. Brown also averaged over five yards a carry, a Herculean feat in any one season, let alone a whole career.
Simply put, Brown was the most dominant runner ever. He owned the gridiron, like Wilt owned the parquet*. The most amazing thing about him? He played in 118 straight games, unheard of today.
