Page 2 of 2 | Aliens 1986 |
| Not as influential as 2001, not as original as Alien, not as powerful in theme as Forbidden Planet, not as well written as Solaris...but it is the finest space movie ever made. Each piece is perfectly constructed, and we watch in amazement as each piece falls into place by the end. What makes it such a crowning achievement, is that it's a sequel--it had to forge its own path in the wake of the brilliance of the original, and boy, it does just that. It's so good, that it was the first sci-fi film that ever garnered a best actor nominee (for Weaver).

It's tough to separate out the films from different eras, largely because the genre tends to rely so heavily on special effects and wow-factor, and sometimes, it's tough to tell what belongs in the sci-fi genre at all. I promise there'll be more sci-fi lists for you to gasp at in the coming weeks! So let's hear the rants!
