T2: Ultimate DVD Edition 1991

The first release of this was a bare-bones edition, but Artisan made up for it by releasing one of the coolest DVDs yet. It does true to its "Ultimate" moniker (unlike the recent Universal re-releases) as it includes everything one would like to know about the Terminator sequel.

There was so much material that the expensive DVD-18 (dual sided/dual sided) process was relegated for this release. But there was such a high demand for this new T2 that pressing plants were unable to keep up and more common DVD-9 plants were called in to help.

If you've had the pleasure of viewing the massive T2 Laserdisc box set, then you have a pretty good idea of what is included on this DVD. There's a commentary featuring over 20 members of the cast and crew, as well as a handful of documentaries. There's even a feature on the creation of the T2: 3D ride at Universal Studios.

Do I really need to go on to tell you about how there are three different cuts of the movie included? Or that the menus are trés cool? Or that it even has a booming DTS 6.1 soundtrack? What about the cool metal slipcase?

So there you have it folks, the first Rush list of must-have DVDs. If the above are unable to convince the masses of the format's superiority, then they all deserve VHS.

Do notice that all titles featured here are double disc sets. This is because of a couple of reasons. First of all, 2 disc sets usually have more substantial supplemental material because a full disc is devoted to them. This is not always true and has been used as a marketing gimmick, but when there are so many extras that they require a disc all to themselves, it usually means good things. Secondly, there are just so many excellent DVDs out there. Narrowing it down to just the best 7 2-disc sets out there was the only way from keeping it from becoming a Top 70 list. On the bright side, you can all stay tuned for future lists on single DVD editions and box-sets. Your favorite not on the list? Shout it out in the forums.
