Page 1 of 2  Female pop stars are carefully crafted brands molded and targeted to a key demographic - notably teenagers. Sex appeal is a major part of this. The girls, eager to grow up, look up to their sexy empowering role models. Not much explanation is really needed to explain the interest of the guys.
Pop music today is harder to define as a style than ever. Musically, it's a constantly swirling concoction of rock, hip hop, alternative, electronica, and even punk. Perhaps the only real requirements for pop music are that it's light and sells obscene amounts of records.
What does it really take to get on the Top 7 Sexiest Pop Stars list? It's not enough to have a cute smile and a hit song. It's not even enough to make it onto TRL - although that may as well have been a candidacy requirement as each of these girls has made it onto that famous countdown. The combination of looks, attitude, and personality has put these girls on the list.

| Mandy Moore
I think half her hits involve candy somehow which is rather amusing in that "little girl, want some candy" sort of way. Her outfits are less revealing than usual for pop stars today, but she's already mastered the look that ignites desire. Time will tell if she will remain a Britney B side or if she will grow into her own niche as she matures. As one of the youngest pop stars, time is something she has plenty of.

| Mariah Carey
Mariah's made the most drastic changes in her look. She went from classy chic to trashy (to slightly loony?) over last few years. Her earlier demure sexy look would have had her pegged a few notches higher. Hopefully she'll get herself together again. She really has a lot of potential left to explore.

| Gwen Stefani
Gwen burst on the scene with No Doubt a few years ago sporting a pixieish ska girl look. Since then she's done everything from glam model to leather clad rapper chick. She always looks like she's having a great time performing and she's quite a bundle of energy.

How could a group with a song and video dedicated to booties not make the list? These girls have a fun sense of style and each of them likes a slightly different look. While Beyonce is clearly the lead, the group as a whole deserves to be here.

| Christina Aguilera
It took her a little bit to get revved up to full sexiness, but Christina's deep blue eyes and swaying hips eventually won over many hearts. I think she's about done convincing us that, yes, she is Hispanic with her Spanish album and she'll hopefully grace us with some more English hits and videos soon. [For the record, I've managed to banish the images of her in the Lady Marmalade video from my mind and her position here is due solely to previous work.]

Our first glimpse of Jennifer Lopez was as a "fly girl" dancer back in the "In Living Color" days. Although a talented dancer, her looks back then weren't all that memorable. Jennifer went through a slew of Hollywood films including "Money Train", "Selena" and "Out of Sight". Going Hollywood brought her up to cute status, but she had yet to capture the rapt attention of millions. Then something magical happened when Jennifer Lopez entered the music industry. I'm not certain if P. Diddy had a hand in her metamorphosis, but she received a serious jolt of raw sexual energy and style. Now she's turning heads everywhere she goes and wears clothes few other women would dare to and looks radiant in them. This is a completely different Jennifer than we saw 10 years ago. This is J. Lo.
